Discover Mameluco's trajectory, from bike delivery boy to independent artist who left the east side of São Paulo, went through theater, photography and different works until taking on the stage and releasing his own music on the label Becoartes no Beco do Batman.
Mameluco is an independent artist whose career carries the tension between survival and expression. The name Mameluco does not appear as a manufactured character. It arises as a consequence.
Mameluco was born and raised on the outskirts of São Paulo, in the east zone, with roots in Ferraz de Vasconcelos, in the Alto Tietê region. As a child, he had his first contact with art through theater and dance shows. Before any label, Mameluco was already an artist.
At the age of 16, Mameluco joined the professional theater in the Opereta group, in Poá, a city neighboring Ferraz de Vasconcelos. He debuted in the show O Homem de La Mancha, inspired by the story of Don Quixote, playing the villain of the plot. There, on stage, he understood that art was not a hobby. It was destiny.
But reality takes its toll. Coming from a humble family, he soon faced the pressure of choosing between making a living from art or surviving. While the artist grew inside, the young man needed to work. He worked in telemarketing, bike food deliveries, children's recreation, bartending. Afterwards, he worked in the area of technical training, in hotels and travel agencies. Each job was a way to pay the bills. But art never ceased to exist.
At the same time, he developed another artistic aspect: photography. At the age of 19, he took a trip through Latin America, passing through Paraguay, Bolivia and Peru. He produced more than five thousand photos. In one of these images, he received recognition from National Geographic. The artistic sensitivity was already there, even before music took public form.
Mameluco composed, wrote poetry and sang from a young age. But it was after a great disappointment in love that he understood the real power of music as a tool of expression. When composing to get through that moment, he realized that music was not just creation. It was healing.
"Music has always helped me, regardless of the moment I was in, especially when we feel sad. When we relate to music, it welcomes us. It is transformative in people's lives. And that's why I chose to make music, because I want when other people go through difficulties they listen to my songs to move forward." reveals Mameluco.
With a strong influence from MPB and dialoguing with the hip-hop universe, Mameluco decided to take the stage. No longer just as a photographer, no longer just as an artist behind the scenes. But as a protagonist.
At the age of 30, he officially released his first song, "Pai". The artist says he has compositions saved for over ten years. He matured before exposing himself.
"The first song I composed I must have been 20 or 21 years old. I haven't released this song yet. I'm planning it to be released on the 2026 album, where I'll mix hip-hop with Brazilianism."
Today, Mameluco is an original artist at the head of his own music label, but its construction did not begin in the studio. It started in the theater, on the streets of the east side, in traveling around Latin America, in working to survive and in the constant conflict between security and dreams.
Mameluco was born on the outskirts of São Paulo and gained weight in Beco do Batman as a cultural agent. But the artist always existed before that.
Now, the difference is that he has decided not to hide anymore.
