Geoffroy-Guichard: combining the stadium and Musée des Verts

The guided-tour ticket includes the museum, but match dates and admission validity require some planning.

To see Stade Geoffroy-Guichard without attending a match, the simplest option is to book the guided stadium tour and use the included admission to Musée des Verts. Both experiences are at the same address, but they do not have to take place on the same day: according to Saint-Étienne’s official tourism website, museum admission can be used on the tour date or within one year. Before finalizing the itinerary, check the official schedule, because regular tours do not operate after certain matches and museum hours vary with the calendar.

How the two visits fit together

The guided tour explores behind-the-scenes areas at Geoffroy-Guichard; the museum presents the history of AS Saint-Étienne as a separate experience. The official Saint-Étienne tourism website says the stadium-tour ticket is a combination ticket that includes admission to Musée des Verts. That admission is valid on the same day or for up to one year.

This flexibility supports two plans. Visitors with enough time can tour the stadium and museum in one outing. Those who prefer a slower visit can save their museum admission for another date within the validity period. In that case, keep the ticket and confirm the conditions directly with the institution before returning.

When tours usually take place

Guided tours of Geoffroy-Guichard are generally organized on Wednesdays and Saturdays, except on days following a match. Additional dates may be offered during Zone A school vacations. “Generally” matters here: it is not a guarantee that a tour will run every Wednesday or Saturday.

Check the sports schedule before purchasing and again shortly before the visit. A match may make a normally available date incompatible with a tour, while school-vacation periods may expand the selection. The consulted sources do not provide a complete future schedule or one universal tour time. Check availability and book through the official Musée des Verts channels.

What the route includes

The stadium is known as the “Chaudron,” and the tour is presented as a look behind the scenes. The Loire Department mentions areas such as locker rooms, a training room, and physiotherapy tables. Because the route may be adjusted for operational reasons, treat that list as a description of the experience rather than a guarantee that every space will be accessible during every session.

Located within the stadium, Musée des Verts covers 800 square meters devoted to ASSE history. The department’s page describes eight museum areas, digital features, interactive games, 19 trophies, and more than 50 jerseys. The tourism listing also highlights objects from different eras, including the square goalposts associated with the 1976 European final, the boots worn by Rachid Mekloufi in the 1968 Coupe de France final, the League Cup won in 2013, and the pennant from the 100th derby.

The ASSE website presents the museum as a space dedicated to the club’s victories and trophies and lists the museum separately from the stadium tour in its experiences section. That distinction explains the combination: two different experiences are brought together by the tour ticket.

Museum hours and matchdays

Outside Zone A school vacations, the municipal tourism website lists museum hours from Tuesday through Saturday, 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. During Zone A school vacations, it lists Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to noon and 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., plus Saturdays from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sundays and Mondays are weekly closing days unless there is a match; the museum is also closed on most public holidays.

On matchdays, the published reference is opening from 10 a.m. until half an hour before kickoff. This does not mean the guided stadium tour follows the same arrangement. The museum and tour have separate rules, and the matchday exception should not automatically be applied to both. Since hours and fixtures can change, confirm all details through the official link before traveling.

Address and public transportation

The museum and stadium are at Stade Geoffroy-Guichard, 14 rue Paul et Pierre Guichard, 42000 Saint-Étienne. For public transportation, the tourism page lists buses 14, M7, M9, S9, and 8, train C28, and tram T3 as routes running near Musée des Verts. That section does not identify the precise stop or walking time, so consult the local trip planner for the travel date and chosen starting point.

To limit surprises, plan in this order: select a date officially offered, check that it does not follow a match, book the tour, and only then decide whether to visit the museum on the same day. If separating the experiences, note the ticket’s validity and confirm any restrictions.

A visit focused on ASSE memory

The museum was renovated in late 2021 and follows the club’s story from its origins through its first successes in the 1950s and its European campaign in the 1970s. Temporary exhibitions can change, so a show mentioned in material from another year should not be assumed to remain current.

Historical photographs of the stadium likewise do not establish its present configuration or whether an area is currently open. For the actual visit, rely on the schedule, reservation, and instructions published by the institution for that date.
