PSG beat Barcelona 4-2 with two late goals

Vitinha restored Paris’s lead after Barça’s second equaliser before Fabián Ruiz completed the scoring at Parc des Princes.

Paris Saint-Germain beat Barcelona 4-2 at Parc des Princes on October 20, 2026, in the third matchday of the Champions League league phase. Barça equalised twice through Xavi Espart and Lamine Yamal, but Vitinha restored the Parisian lead in the 81st minute and Fabián Ruiz completed the scoring late on. It was a league-phase defeat, not Barcelona’s elimination.

Six goals and two Barcelona responses

PSG opened the scoring in the 38th minute. Désiré Doué finished from the edge of the box after Paris regained possession. According to UEFA’s official round-up, the forward was named Player of the Match.

Barcelona produced their first equaliser in the 55th minute. Xavi Espart advanced to meet Fermín López’s pass and made it 1-1. The goal kept the visitors in contention following an opening half in which Joan García had been required to make important saves.

Lucas Hernández scores and Yamal responds

The teams remained level until the 72nd minute, when Lucas Hernández headed in from a corner to put Paris back in front. The Catalan response was again swift: seven minutes later, Lamine Yamal capitalised on a defensive mistake, entered the penalty area and struck to make it 2-2.

UEFA’s technical analysis highlighted Yamal’s high finish and noted that both Barcelona goals were scored by teenagers. At that stage, the visitors had cancelled out the hosts’ advantage for a second time.

Vitinha decides it in the 81st minute

PSG’s reply was almost immediate. In the 81st minute, Vitinha controlled the ball and found the bottom corner with a low effort from the edge of the area to make it 3-2. UEFA observed that the shot travelled through a cluster of players, making Joan García’s task more difficult.

As Barcelona pushed for a third equaliser, Paris found the space to complete the scoring. Fabián Ruiz met Achraf Hakimi’s cross and converted from close range. Barcelona’s official report records the fourth goal in the 87th minute; that is therefore the timing used here, although other records may count the moment differently.

The turning point

Yamal’s 2-2 equaliser appeared to reopen the contest completely, but parity lasted only two minutes. Vitinha’s goal changed the situation: Barcelona had to accept more risk, and PSG exploited the resulting space to create their fourth goal.

Finishing efficiency proved decisive. UEFA’s technical analysis says Joan García made ten saves, the most by any goalkeeper in Champions League action that Tuesday. Even so, the precise efforts by Doué and Vitinha, followed by the finishes from Lucas Hernández and Fabián Ruiz, produced a Paris victory.

What the result meant in the league phase

The win gave PSG three victories from their first three league-phase matches. Barcelona, meanwhile, suffered their first defeat of the 2026/27 season and saw an 11-game winning run end, according to the official reports. The context matters: this was not a knockout tie. The points count toward the league-phase standings, and this single defeat did not eliminate Barça.
