Marc Márquez can clinch the MotoGP title on Sunday, November 8, 2026, only if he wins the Qatar Grand Prix and Jorge Martín scores no points. No other combination will settle the championship at Lusail. The race starts at 19:00 in Qatar (UTC+3), 16:00 UTC and 17:00 in mainland Spain and France (UTC+1).
The scenario was confirmed by MotoGP after Saturday’s Sprint. Márquez enters the main race 49 points ahead of Martín, now the only rider capable of preventing him from securing the title this weekend.

The calculation behind the title scenario
Both conditions must be met: Márquez has to win, adding 25 points to his advantage if Martín fails to score. The current 49-point gap would consequently become 74 points: 49 + 25 = 74. That is the margin required by the title scenario confirmed by MotoGP for the end of the Qatar race.
A victory for the championship leader is not enough if Martín also scores. Likewise, a scoreless race for the Aprilia rider will not settle the title on Sunday if Márquez finishes anywhere other than first. In practice, viewers need to track two things: who leads the race and whether Martín is in a points-paying position.
Scenarios calculated before the Sprint are now outdated. They were based on a smaller gap and still included Marco Bezzecchi among the contenders. Following Saturday’s short race, the contest has been reduced to Márquez and Martín.

How the Sprint changed the championship
Márquez won the Sprint and collected 12 points. Fabio Di Giannantonio finished second, while Martín took third after starting 11th. Those results increased the Ducati rider’s advantage to 49 points.
Pole-sitter Bezzecchi crashed after making contact with Márquez while they fought for the lead. The stewards reviewed the incident and took no further action, regarding it as a racing incident. According to MotoGP’s official report, the retirement also removed Bezzecchi from the championship fight.
The Sprint was red-flagged following an accident involving Fermín Aldeguer and Francesco Bagnaia, then restarted over ten laps. Those events explain how the result developed, but they do not change Sunday’s published condition: Martín is the only rider who can still delay Márquez’s title.

Qatar Grand Prix start time
The official MotoGP schedule lists the start for 19:00 on November 8 at Lusail, UTC+3. That is 16:00 UTC and 17:00 in mainland Spain and France, UTC+1.
The MotoGP race is scheduled for 22 laps. Warm-up is due to begin at 14:40 in Qatar, or 11:40 UTC. Moto3 and Moto2 also race on Sunday, but the potential championship decision belongs to the premier-class Grand Prix.
Operational changes remain possible at sporting events, so the official schedule should be checked again shortly before the start.

How to watch in your territory
MotoGP’s official broadcaster directory lists the UK, USA, Canada and other English-speaking territories. However, the available page text does not clearly associate each country with a specific broadcaster. It would therefore be misleading to promise one channel across different English-language markets.
Select your country in the directory and confirm access and current conditions with the operator shown there. The official site also presents MotoGP VideoPass, but availability, pricing and territorial terms should be checked directly before subscribing.
What to follow during the race
If Márquez is not first, the necessary condition has not been fulfilled. If he leads, attention must then turn to whether Martín remains outside the points through the chequered flag. A late change of position for either rider could postpone the decision.
Any championship projection shown during the race will be provisional. The title should be treated as secured only after the final result and any subsequent official decisions.
The setting for the potential decider
The Lusail International Circuit is 5.38 kilometres long, with ten right-hand turns, six left-hand turns and a 1,068-metre straight. The planned race distance is 118.36 kilometres over 22 laps.
Qatar held its first motorcycle World Championship Grand Prix in 2004. In 2008, it staged the championship’s first night Grand Prix. Under those floodlights, Márquez will have the opportunity to close out the 2026 contest—provided he wins and Martín scores no points.
