Franco Colapinto: P13 in São Paulo, with no points

The Argentine started 13th, completed 70 laps and finished immediately ahead of Pierre Gasly.

Franco Colapinto finished the 2026 São Paulo Grand Prix in 13th place, completed 70 of 71 laps and scored no points. The Argentine crossed the line immediately ahead of teammate Pierre Gasly, who was 14th. Formula 1 still labelled the published result as provisional.

Colapinto’s Interlagos result

The race classification published by Formula 1 lists Colapinto, driving Alpine’s number 43 car, in 13th. He is credited with 70 laps, one fewer than winner Lando Norris, who completed 71.

The points-paying positions ended with Nico Hülkenberg in tenth, worth one point. Colapinto therefore received zero. Fernando Alonso and Arvid Lindblad also finished ahead of him, in 12th and 11th respectively, without scoring.

Why both 17th and 13th appear

The numbers refer to different stages of the weekend. The quoted 17th place in qualifying concerns the session result used to establish an initial order before official changes. The official starting grid, however, placed Colapinto 13th.

The grid page records several penalties for the use of additional power-unit elements. They affected George Russell, Max Verstappen, Sergio Pérez, Charles Leclerc, Lewis Hamilton, Arvid Lindblad and Gabriel Bortoleto. Once the official order was reorganised, starting positions did not necessarily reproduce the qualifying classification.

Colapinto’s sequence is therefore: 17th in the quoted qualifying result, 13th on the reorganised grid and 13th at the finish. Qualifying, starting grid and race classification are separate documents; overlooking the session name creates the apparent contradiction.

Finishing ahead of Gasly

Colapinto won Alpine’s internal contest in the provisional classification. Gasly started 15th and finished 14th, also completing 70 laps and scoring no points. Colapinto began the race two grid positions ahead of the Frenchman and finished one place ahead.

That supports only a factual comparison of their positions. The reviewed sources do not explain strategy, pace or specific reasons for the gap between the cars, so the result should not be expanded into a broader performance verdict.

What completing 70 laps means

The first eight finishers completed 71 laps. Colapinto and the drivers classified from ninth through 17th completed 70 and were shown one lap down. That does not mean he retired: he received a valid finishing position.

Colapinto’s 2026 results record confirms 13th place and zero points for Brazil. It also shows points finishes at other rounds, but São Paulo did not add to his total.

The result was still provisional

On its event documents page, the FIA published a provisional race classification. The same repository listed summonses concerning an alleged unsafe release involving cars 12 and 43. A summons records a matter for steward review; it is not, by itself, a penalty.

The picture available on November 8, 2026 is therefore clear but provisional: Colapinto 13th, Gasly 14th and no points for either driver. Check the official Formula 1 and FIA links for any later decisions.
