Grammy 2027: verifying claims about K-pop artists

A campaign or post saying that a K-pop artist was “submitted,” “entered” or placed on a ballot does not prove a 2027 Grammy nomination. Under the process described by the Recording Academy, a nomination exists only after the stage that determines the names officially announced as nominees. On September 23, 2026, the official pages supplied for this report did not display a list of 2027 nominees. Any such claim must therefore be checked directly against official channels.

The route begins with an entry

The official explanation of the voting process says that Recording Academy members and media companies enter recordings and music videos or films released during the eligibility period. An entry proposes a work for participation in the process; it does not mean approval, a place among the nominees or recognition awarded by the Academy.

Eligibility must also be separated from entry. A release may, in principle, meet a timing or technical condition, but the consulted source does not establish that it was actually entered. Likewise, a label, distributor or artist-team announcement about a submission documents only that stage, not the outcome of the stages that follow.

Screening checks requirements and placement

After entries are received, more than 350 experts participate in review sessions. According to the Academy, their purpose is to ensure that works meet the qualifications and have been placed in the appropriate fields and categories. Screening is not an artistic or technical judgment.

Passing screening therefore means that an entry was deemed eligible and properly placed within the process. It does not mean that voters selected it. Promotional materials using phrases such as “for your consideration” should also be understood as campaigning: they may ask voters for consideration, but they do not replace an official decision.

Appearing on a ballot is not yet a nomination

In the First Round, Voting Members make selections in areas where they are peers. Under the general method described, they may vote in up to ten categories across as many as three genre fields, in addition to the six General Field categories. The Academy also offers Ballot Plus to eligible members, providing additional categories connected to areas in which they actively work. The independent firm Deloitte tabulates the ballots.

An entry available in that vote is a candidate for nomination. The distinction is decisive: “on the ballot” describes the opportunity to receive votes; “nominated” describes the result officially determined and announced after that stage.

One exception prevents this route from being presented as a single universal rule. In Craft categories, final nominations are determined by special committees composed of Voting Members from the Academy’s chapter cities who actively work in the craft being judged. An accurate flow must therefore split into two paths at this point.

A flowchart for checking a claim

Use this sequence when encountering a post about the 2027 Grammys:

Release → entry by a member or media company → eligibility and category screening → entry cleared for consideration.

From there:

• Categories decided through the First Round: member voting → independent tabulation → nominations determined and announced.
• Craft categories: review by the relevant special committee → final nominations determined → official announcement.

Final voting takes place after the announcement. Members vote in their permitted categories and are directed to vote only in fields where they are peers of the nominees. Deloitte & Touche LLP tabulates the ballots; the work with the most votes wins, and ties are possible. Winners are announced at the Premiere and televised ceremonies.

K-pop is not listed as its own category

The official category list available on this article’s date organizes awards into fields including General, Pop & Dance/Electronic, Rock, R&B & Rap, Latin, Global and others. It does not list a category called “K-pop.”

That does not establish where any particular Korean release was entered. Placement depends on the work and the review built into the process. To verify a claim, compare the artist’s and release’s exact names with the category identified by the official source; do not assume that nationality, language or promotional strategy determines classification.

How to identify reliable confirmation

Look for a list or profile published on the Recording Academy’s and Grammy’s official domains. The institutional awards archive identifies earlier editions, major categories and winners, but the material supplied for this report extended through the 68th edition, held in 2026. It did not support claims about 2027 nominees or winners.

Before sharing, ask three questions: does the post say “entry,” “submitted” or “on the ballot” instead of “nominee”? Does it link to an official category and an Academy announcement? Does the name appear on an official page rather than only on campaign artwork or a third-party post? If final confirmation is absent, describe only the stage that the evidence establishes.

What can be stated on September 23, 2026

The official sources available for this report explain the process and provide category information, but they do not confirm a K-pop nomination for the 2027 Grammys.
