For fans looking for NFL tickets, the safest starting point is the NFL Ticket HQ identified by the league and the official channel for the specific game. The new Ticketmaster agreement expands the distribution of verified inventory among authorized marketplaces, but it does not turn every resale website into an official partner or guarantee that every function is available for every event or territory.

What the new agreement actually opens
Announced on October 21, 2026, the multiyear agreement between the NFL and Ticketmaster introduces a model called Open Distribution. Eligible Season Ticket Members can list certain tickets once and reach fans across more participating marketplaces.
The official Ticketmaster Business announcement says authorized secondary marketplaces will gain access to eligible resale inventory across all 32 NFL teams. Ticketmaster will continue to power the NFL Ticket Exchange and remain the league’s exclusive platinum secondary ticketing partner. SeatGeek, Sports Illustrated Tickets and Tixr are also named within the licensed NFL Ticket HQ network.
The change concerns how an eligible listing is distributed; it does not authenticate every ticket offered online. The available sources do not provide a final list of all future participants or a complete rollout timetable. Buyers should confirm that a marketplace is reached through the NFL or team’s official path before paying.

Where U.S. buyers should begin
The NFL’s 2026 season page directs single-game ticket shoppers to NFL Ticket HQ and identifies Ticketmaster, SeatGeek and Sports Illustrated Tickets as trusted channels. It is a useful starting point, while the relevant team page remains important because account management may occur through the team’s site or app.
Open Distribution also should not be read as permission to use any third-party exchange. Inventory must be eligible, and the marketplace must participate in the authorized network. Availability of a Sell or Transfer button depends on the order rather than merely on the buyer having a Ticketmaster account.
International games may have separate partners and territorial terms. For any particular event, buyers should follow the link published by the NFL or club and review the current conditions before purchasing.
A transfer is not a resale
A transfer moves a ticket to another fan without necessarily involving a sale. According to Ticketmaster’s U.S. NFL help page, the option appears only when the order is eligible. The recipient needs a Ticketmaster account and, after accepting the transfer, receives a new barcode. The ticket remaining in the sender’s account is no longer valid for entry.
A resale involves creating a listing, selecting a price and supplying a payout method when the Sell function is available. Season-ticket holders may need to manage that listing through the NFL team ticket page or team app. Owning a ticket therefore does not, by itself, guarantee either transfer or resale eligibility.
Entry is mobile, and screenshots do not work
For NFL games covered by Ticketmaster’s U.S. guidance, fans must display tickets through the Ticketmaster App or a mobile wallet. Screenshots and printouts are not accepted. Ticketmaster recommends accessing the ticket in advance and adding it to the device’s wallet.
A person unable to access tickets on a smartphone is directed to the venue box office with identification and the order number. Transfer recipients should also accept their tickets before reaching the gate; sending an image of a barcode is not a substitute for the official transfer process.
U.S. resale carries specific seller requirements
Ticketmaster’s U.S. flow requires a U.S. bank account to resell tickets for events in the United States. Seller tax details must also be validated before payout and may include a Social Security Number or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number.
Those requirements are especially relevant to anyone outside the country who assumes that opening a Ticketmaster account is enough to become a seller. They describe payout for U.S. events, however, and do not by themselves prove that the entire Open Distribution model is geographically limited to the United States.
Ticketmaster says payout is typically deposited within seven days after the event, but eligibility and payment details remain subject to the applicable listing and account conditions. Sellers should check the current official instructions rather than treating that timing as unconditional.
A short check before paying
Confirm the matchup on the NFL or team page, enter the marketplace through an official link, check whether the ticket can be transferred and understand how it will be delivered to the app. If future resale matters, read the event’s rules before buying instead of relying on a Sell button that may never appear.
Keep the confirmation and order number as well. Participating marketplaces, eligibility and event terms can change, so the final check belongs on the official pages. The agreement broadens distribution of verified eligible inventory; it does not create a universal right to resell every NFL ticket.
