If you receive television through DTT in Spain, run a new channel scan on November 5, 2026, after the government’s announced redistribution has taken place. The scan is required to access the new ultra-high-definition (UHD) broadcasts, new services and updated channel list. Without retuning, most channels should remain available in high definition (HD), but Clan, DKISS, A3Series, BeMad and Boing may move or disappear from the list, depending on the receiver’s configuration.
Start with the television’s automatic channel scan. Do not immediately assume that you need to replace the set or alter the aerial: first check which channels are missing and whether other televisions connected to the same installation have the same problem.

What is scheduled for November 5
Spain’s Ministry for Digital Transformation and the Civil Service said national channels will be redistributed among digital multiplexes — frequency blocks carrying several broadcasters — during the early hours of November 5. Its notice tells viewers to retune from 8 a.m. to receive the new broadcasts and positions.
However, the notice states only “8 in the morning” and does not identify the applicable time zone. Spain has more than one time zone, so check the official notice and local broadcaster announcements before starting. The safest approach is to wait for confirmation that the redistribution has finished in your area.
The change introduces DVB-T2 on the main national channels, with simultaneous HD and UHD broadcasts, and releases capacity for a new nationwide channel. According to the ministry, that channel’s programming may begin on November 5 and should start before November 27; viewers should not assume everything will be available immediately.
RTVE is also announcing La 2 UHD and the RNE Accesible service, available after retuning on compatible sets.

Who needs to scan again
Anyone wanting UHD, the new channel or the new services needs to retune. Viewers of Clan, DKISS, A3Series, BeMad or Boing should do the same because those channels may move or cease to appear in the current list. Anyone who does nothing should continue receiving most broadcasters in HD.
This is therefore not a general DTT switch-off, and it does not require everyone to buy a new television. The ministry says sets without support for the new technology will continue receiving HD content. Spain’s National DTT Technical Plan organises the service by multiplex and geographical area. The consolidated BOE text is informational; for legal purposes, the page advises consulting the official publication.

How to retune the television
After confirming that the redistribution has finished locally, use the remote to open an option such as “Menú”, “Home” or “Ajustes”. Look for “Canales”, “Emisión”, “Sintonización”, “Instalación” or “Configuración”; wording varies by manufacturer. Select the automatic search, wait for it to finish and save the list. You may then need to rearrange the channels.
Manual tuning is useful only when you have a confirmed frequency for the area and the automatic scan cannot find a particular channel. The sources reviewed do not provide a municipality-by-municipality frequency table for this change, so do not copy figures published for another location.
Before scanning, note your favourites or photograph their current order. This is practical advice, not a technical requirement, because some interfaces rearrange the list.
When to check the television
If HD channels appear but their UHD versions do not, consult the specifications and check support for DVB-T2 and UHD. A 4K screen alone does not prove that a set can receive the new broadcast: the tuner and supported formats also matter.
According to the ministry, televisions sold in Spain since the plan approved in March 2025 came into force must tune in to DTT in UHD. That does not confirm compatibility for older sets, imported models or equipment bought outside the Spanish market. Check the manual or contact the manufacturer before buying a decoder.
When to suspect the communal aerial
If only one television fails, repeat the scan and inspect its cable, wall socket and connections. If several sets sharing the same aerial lose exactly the same channels, the shared installation becomes a more plausible cause.
In an apartment building, ask other residents whether the problem is repeated. If different flats are affected, report it to the building management so the installation can be assessed collectively. Earlier RTVE guidance shows that retuning a receiver and adapting a communal aerial are separate measures, but that precedent does not prove the building needs work now.
An Onda Cero report describes the automatic scan as the household procedure while noting that incomplete reception may require an aerial check. Do not approve a complete replacement without a diagnosis.
A quick decision
First confirm that the redistribution has finished, then run the automatic scan. If HD channels appear, basic reception is working. If only UHD is missing, check the set’s compatibility. If one outlet alone has a problem, inspect the television, cable and socket. If several flats are affected, contact building management and a qualified installer.
Operational details may change. Before acting, check the ministry’s official notice again, particularly the timing applicable to your location.
