Cyberpunk 2077: New Quest, Combat, and Mods in Update 2.5

Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.5 arrives on October 22, 2026, with a quest set before *Edgerunners 2*, dual-wield combat, visual cyberware customization, cross-platform mods, and technical improvements. You do not need to watch the anime before playing: the series tells a standalone story, and the game’s direct connection is mainly established through the Clampdown quest, gear, and musical references.

At launch, the free update covers PC, Mac through Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Nintendo Switch 2 and the Mac App Store edition will receive it in the following days, but the official Update 2.5 notes do not give an exact date for those two versions.

Clampdown: how to unlock the anime-linked quest

Clampdown takes place before *Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2*. To unlock it, players must complete The Heist, finish two gigs for Wakako, and wait for a message from her. The quest offers a five-piece gear set inspired by King, the identity by which veteran edgerunner Weak was once known.

This structure makes the quest an introduction to the anime’s context rather than a continuation that requires prior knowledge. Players who start with the game will find a story set before the series; those who have already watched it will recognize the character connection. The update also adds the HKGN 102.0 FM station, featuring a selection of music from the animated franchise.

Dual wielding and new cyberware appearances

The main combat addition is the Double Trouble perk in the Cool tree, accompanied by four auxiliary perks. It allows players to wield two Power-category Pistols or Revolvers at once. New Photo Mode poses showcase this combat style, while frames based on the *Cyberpunk Trading Card Game* also join the mode.

Customization now extends to Mantis Blades, Gorilla Arms, Monowire, and the Projectile Launch System. After equipping one of these implants, players can visit one of five Glamdocs, marked by a spray-paint icon on the map. Each location has its own introduction and a distinct catalog of color-adjustable appearances.

Five clothing sets are also sold by specific vendors, while the NUS Infiltrator set is available in Kabuki and Japantown. Certain hairstyles previously limited to NPCs become available to V, although some depend on body type. Four TWINTONE skins for the Quadra Turbo-R V-Tech are distributed through Twitch Drops; because access depends on an external campaign, check the official link for current conditions.

In-game mods and the trophy caveat

Cross-platform mod support, powered by mod.io, lets players browse and install a selection of community creations through the in-game menu. It covers PC, Mac, PS5, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2, with more mods expected over time.

There is an important caveat on consoles: achievements and trophies cannot be earned while playing from a modded save file. These saves receive a dedicated icon for easier identification. Files on the Load Game screen are also grouped by playthrough, while apartment and vehicle stashes gain item filters.

More quests, tarot cards, and interface changes

The Welcome to Paradise side quest unlocks after The Heist and upon reaching Street Cred level 15. It asks players to investigate a mystery during a guided tour of Night City narrated by Richard Night.

Twelve new Minor Arcana Tarot Cards are also scattered across the city. Scanning any one of them activates an extension of Fool on the Hill; completing the collection grants a special reward. The Tarot menu now separates Major and Minor Arcana.

Practical changes include a field-of-view slider on consoles and fixes affecting quest progression, controls, the third-person camera, HDR, and saving on Switch 2. The list also records multiple fixes for features and content introduced since Patch 2.1.

Graphics and performance: hardware-dependent additions

On PC, the update adds DLSS 4.5, including up to 6X Multi Frame Generation, a dynamic mode, and the second-generation Transformer Model. AMD’s options change: FSR 3 is removed as an upscaler, while FSR 2.1, FSR 4, and FSR 3.1 Frame Generation remain. An FSR Anti-Lag 2 toggle is also included.

The Mac version gains MetalFX Frame Interpolation. Compatible Samsung Odyssey 3D monitors receive glasses-free 3D effects and a setting that balances depth with viewing comfort. CD PROJEKT RED also reports performance optimizations, including work on ray tracing and PS5 Pro, plus more accurate HDR color, brightness, and contrast on compatible displays.

*Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2* premiered on Netflix on October 20, 2026, with ten episodes. According to CD PROJEKT RED’s announcement, the studio’s production with TRIGGER features a new cast and a standalone narrative. The anime’s official website describes a story centered on Weak, netrunner D, cinephile Roman, and Talia.

In practice, the game and series can be experienced in either order. Watching first adds recognition to the references; playing Clampdown first follows the chronology of this connection. The update does not turn the main campaign into an anime adaptation: it places a precursor story and themed items inside a broader package of content, customization, and technology.
