Dorian Godon wins the 2026 Gran Piemonte sprint in Bra

The Frenchman regained contact after La Morra, benefited from Netcompany INEOS’s chase and beat Charmig and Bettiol.

Dorian Godon won the Gran Piemonte on October 8, 2026, after Netcompany INEOS helped catch Isaac Del Toro and Finn Fisher-Black with 1.4 km remaining. Guided into position by Axel Laurance for the sprint in Bra, the Frenchman passed Anthon Charmig and Alberto Bettiol. The result depended on two separate tasks: surviving the final ascent of La Morra and turning the chase into favorable positioning for the decisive straight.

The 2026 Gran Piemonte result

Godon completed the 181 kilometers from Asti to Bra in 4 hours, 6 minutes and 19 seconds. Charmig of Uno-X Mobility finished second, with XDS Astana’s Bettiol third, both on the winner’s time. The official Gran Piemonte standings also list 2,450 meters of elevation gain and confirm that the leading riders finished together.

It was the 110th edition of the Italian classic. The RCS Sport announcement confirms the Asti-to-Bra route, the podium and an average speed of 44.089 km/h.

Del Toro forced the selection on La Morra

A nine-rider breakaway shaped the first part of the race, but its final survivors, Valentin Ferron and Santiago Umba, were caught 40 kilometers from the finish. On the second ascent of La Morra, defending champion Isaac Del Toro attacked, and only Finn Fisher-Black was able to follow, initially with some difficulty.

Del Toro briefly opened a gap near the summit, but Fisher-Black regained contact on the descent. According to the race’s official report, the pair held 30 seconds at the top before several teams organized the chase and reduced their advantage.

Godon returned as his team sustained the chase

Godon did not crest La Morra with the first riders, but regained contact after the climb. That passage is essential to understanding the victory: he did not need to respond directly to Del Toro’s attack; he needed to remain close enough to benefit when the collective chase gathered momentum on the approach to Bra.

The Netcompany INEOS race report explains how the work was divided. Tobias Foss and Bob Jungels helped set the pace on the climb, while Kim Heiduk contributed to the pursuit of Del Toro and Fisher-Black. The catch came with 1.4 km to go, removing the attackers’ advantage while leaving little time for another tactical reset.

Laurance prepared the Bra sprint

Over the final two kilometers, Godon followed Axel Laurance. His teammate guided him toward the front and delivered him in a strong position for the sequence of bends. The finish design shows why that work mattered: after an uphill section, the course featured turns at 500 and 250 meters, followed by a 250-meter finishing straight on a gentle rise.

Bettiol moved forward to lead out Thomas Silva, but Silva crashed into the barriers on the last corner, according to the organizer’s account. Godon exited the turn in third position and accelerated past Charmig and Bettiol. His place before the corner reduced his exposure to the disruption and gave him a clear line for the final effort.

The tactical reading of the victory

The outcome was not simply a matter of producing the fastest sprint. Godon managed the climb without trying to match the strongest attack, recovered his position as the chase became organized and stayed on Laurance’s wheel at the crucial moment. His team used different riders to keep the race within reach while preserving its finisher for the closing meters.

That combination worked because the catch came late: Del Toro and Fisher-Black were removed from contention, but their rivals had only 1.4 km to reshape the race. Godon entered the final bend in third and converted that position into victory—a finish decided as much by the preceding teamwork as by the acceleration on the straight.
