FIFA Women’s Champions Cup 2027: format and Miami places

The 2027 FIFA Women’s Champions Cup brings together six continental champions, but only four reach the semifinals in Miami. An asymmetric bracket accounts for the difference: the AFC and OFC representatives begin in Round 1, and the winner faces the CAF champion in Round 2. Only the survivor of that route advances to the final phase, where Club América, Barcelona and the future CONMEBOL champion complete the field of four.

FIFA has confirmed the format, venue and date of the decisive matchday. Four clubs can already be identified in the bracket: Club América Femenil, FC Barcelona Femení, Naegohyang Women’s FC and Auckland United FC. The CAF and CONMEBOL representatives still depend on the outcome of their continental competitions.

Why six champions become four semifinalists

All six confederations have one representative, but their champions enter at different stages. In Round 1, Asian champion Naegohyang faces Oceania champion Auckland United. The winner plays the future African champion in Round 2.

That second tie produces just one place in the Miami phase. Three champions — from the AFC, OFC and CAF — therefore share the same knockout branch and compete for one semifinal berth. Three teams from that group will not travel to Florida for the final phase; only the Round 2 winner will.

The remaining three places belong to the Concacaf, UEFA and CONMEBOL champions. América and Barcelona have already secured their berths. The South American representative will be known after the Copa Libertadores Femenina. This distribution reduces the field from six continental champions to four semifinalists.

The bracket leading to the final

The announced sequence can be followed as follows:

1. Round 1: Naegohyang Women’s FC (AFC) vs Auckland United FC (OFC), scheduled for October 2026.

2. Round 2: the first match’s winner faces the CAF champion in December 2026.

3. Semifinal in Miami: the Round 2 winner faces Concacaf champion Club América.

4. Other semifinal: UEFA champion Barcelona faces the future CONMEBOL champion.

5. Final matchday: the losing semifinalists play for third place, while the winners contest the final.

This structure also explains why América and Barcelona appear directly in Miami: the bracket gives them entry at the semifinal stage, as it does the South American champion. In the reviewed sources, FIFA provided no further explanation for how the entry stages were allocated.

Club América arrives as Concacaf champion

Club América qualified by defeating Washington Spirit 5-3 in the 2025/26 Concacaf W Champions Cup final in Pachuca. It was the club’s first title in the competition and its first Concacaf trophy, according to the confederation’s official report.

The berth sends the Mexican team directly into a semifinal against the club that emerges from the branch containing the Asian, Oceanian and African champions. The continental final also qualified América for the 2028 FIFA Women’s Club World Cup, which is a separate competition from the 2027 Champions Cup.

Barcelona holds the European place

Barcelona earned the UEFA place by beating OL Lyonnes 4-0 in the 2026 final at Ullevaal Stadion in Oslo. It was the club’s fourth European title in six seasons. UEFA also records that the team reached a sixth consecutive final and that Ewa Pajor led its campaign with 11 goals.

Barcelona enters the Champions Cup directly in the other semifinal. Its opponent will be the CONMEBOL Copa Libertadores Femenina champion, which had not been determined in FIFA’s announcement. The European and South American half of the bracket will therefore become complete only after that continental competition is decided.

Naegohyang and Auckland begin before Miami

Naegohyang Women’s FC and Auckland United FC are already official participants, although they must advance through the preliminary rounds. FIFA identifies Naegohyang as the AFC Women’s Champions League winner and Auckland as the winner of the corresponding OFC competition.

Their opening tie is scheduled for October, followed in December by the meeting with the African champion. The reviewed source currently gives no exact dates, venues or kick-off times for those games. Readers should check the competition’s official page when those details are published.

What is confirmed for Miami

The semifinals, third-place match and final will be staged at Nu Stadium, the home of Inter Miami CF. The bronze match and final are set for Sunday, 31 January 2027, as a double-header. FIFA says the stadium opened in April 2026.

Kick-off times and the complete match schedule remain pending. FIFA offers an option to register interest through its ticket page, but that does not mean a sale with announced prices and seating sections is already underway. Approved by the FIFA Council in May 2024, the competition is held in years when the FIFA Women’s Club World Cup is not scheduled. The 2027 tournament will be its second edition; Arsenal won the inaugural event.
